American Airlines understands consent about as well as Christian Grey
Fly the American Way?
The key to our success as a company is being an airline customers want to fly, where employees want to work and shareholders want to invest. It’s about being an airline that embraces diversity and creates an environment of mutual respect.American Airlines
American Airlines has worked hard to present themselves as both a patriotic company and a pioneer in having enlightened attitudes.
On the patriotic side, they created the AA “Flagship Freedom”. It’s a Boeing 757-200, labeled with a “yellow awareness ribbon” symbol.
The special paint job represents support of United States Armed Forces operations overseas.
In terms of equality and diversity, American was the first major U.S. airline to include sexual identity and orientation in its nondiscrimination policies.
According to an email statement AA made to the Charlotte Business Journal in 2015:
“For nearly two decades, American has been a pioneer in its fair-minded policies and practices for its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) customers and employees. The key to our success as a company is being an airline customers want to fly, where employees want to work and shareholders want to invest. It’s about being an airline that embraces diversity and creates an environment of mutual respect.”
The airline even made a BDSM innuendo in a recent Twitter post, referencing 50 Shades of Grey.
That all sounds very good.
American Airlines would seem to well positioned to capture plenty of business from the LGBT and kink communities.
Unfortunately, even the most broad-minded corporate attitudes won’t help a company if their employees aren’t enlightened.
American Airline’s recent problem began when one of their flight crews grossly mishandled a sexual assault complaint.
Here’s the story as it’s told by Chloe King. (A Social Media Manager for a luxury goods store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue in New York City.)
I was the victim of a sexual crime on a recent international American Airlines flight. I woke up right before landing to have a flight attendant call me to the back of the plane and inform me that the man sitting next to me had been masturbating beside me while I slept. The woman to his other side saw it happen and asked to be moved, and the French Police had been notified to arrest the man upon landing — they just wanted to let me know.
What they didn’t do was wake me up and move me to a safe place. What they didn’t do was accommodate my request — after informing me of the assault — to sit anywhere else on the plane for landing. Instead, they made me climb back over the sex offender, trapped between him and the window for the rest of the flight. I was shaking and crying and trying not to get sick.

Chloe King – re-seated next to masturbator on flight
I have had it with these motherfuckin’ snakes on this motherfuckin’ plane!
Let’s be clear. Chloe King was a victim. Several times over.
Airline seating demands close proximity. It feels to me as though flying today already forces a kind of “near intimacy” with our seatmates. Then, imagine something sexually intimate happening. Almost in your lap …
Regardless of whether gendarmes arrested the masturbating man from Chloe’s American Airlines flight to Paris. Regardless of his eventual conviction in a French court for his actions. There’s no escaping that a public sex act was reported to airline staff.
Chloe became a victim while she was asleep. A public sex act occurred in the next seat. Chloe King could not, and did not, consent to masturbation occurring. Not anywhere in such close proximity to her person.
When Chloe was returned to her seat, it would seem that American Airlines compounded the damage.
What kind of fool tells a woman she must return to a seat next to a man who’s going to be arrested? What kind of idiot makes a woman crawl back over that man on the return to her seat?
Were they actively trying to give him more jerk-off material? (Facepalm.)
I do know I’ll never feel completely safe flying again. Add an American Airlines airplane to the long list of places where, as a woman, I will feel anxious and vulnerable.Chloe King
Fly Michael’s Way
Come on now, American Airlines …
There had to be another seat where Chloe could have been placed.
Lacking that, logic would dictate that they place a different passenger on the aisle seat next to the man.
Perhaps AA could have seated a big burly man who can’t be traumatized by the sight of a cock.
You know, should the masturbating man dare to whip it out again.
Someone who has read Hardy Haberman’s books on cbt.
Someone like me!
I would claim self-defense for the damage I’d inflict …
I thought I saw a motherfucking snake on that motherfucking plane!
