Rest in Peace Jeff Gord

On the evening of September 3rd, 2013 we lost a master, a hero, and a true artist in every sense of the word. His lover Femcar was with him till the very end, although not by his side. She was in her proper place, on her knees naked, below his desk. He burst through our world, larger than life, lived and died on his own terms. He will truly be missed, and his art will live on forever.

Jeff GordThere’s no escaping that the world is a lesser place today, as we stop to mark and mourn the passing of a true BDSM pioneer.  Jeff Gord – a visionary, a veritable master of the BDSM arts, not to mention a man who was a hero to many, passed from this world earlier this week on September 3rd, 2013. Jeff was the creative genius behind the House of Gord – an exotic website revolving around a fetish for forniphilia and ultra bondage.

Although Jeff’s been listed among my Fetlife friends, I can’t say that I ever met Jeff in person. Our only contact was a few brief messages exchanged via mail at Fetlife, and at (believe it or not) tumblr.com. Yet, I can honestly say Jeff Gord touched my life, and even left a visible reminder of that contact, something that’s very meaningful to me.

You see, Jeff Gord wrote me and recommended the artisan who created the beautiful custom collar to be placed around Serafina’s neck at her collaring ceremony in October. I can very safely say that without Jeff pointing me that way, I never would have found the German craftsman who created a piece of jewelry that’s also a very special symbol of my Master / slave relationship with my Serafina.

Thank you, Jeff Gord, for having touched my life, and thank you for making the BDSM world a little more unique and special place to inhabit.  Jeff, you are, and will be, missed.

bondage pioneer

Jefferson Lloyd Gord was born May 5th, 1946, and it didn’t take long before he realized the joys of kink.  I always thought I was precocious, having started to discover my kinky side about grade 4.  Gord has described his own journey starting by the age of five, upon viewing a young woman with a great ass dressed in fishnet stocking and tall boots.  From that day forward, the die was apparently cast.  Here’s how it was described by Scene Magazine:

He had no idea why at that age, but it made him feel warm and fuzzy all over when she turned around and he saw her butt cheeks mincing around in those tights. He was getting really annoyed when she kept turning to face the audience and spouting all those irrelevant lines. He remembers thinking that if she was tied up she would not be able to turn around and hide her butt.

Influenced and inspired by the classic bondage art of John Willie, Eric Stanton, and Bob Bishop, Jeff got the “House of Gord” started in 1970.  The rest, as they say, is history.

To my eye, Gord’s biggest claim to fame are the incredible bondage devices he created.  Even a quick perusal of the House of Gord website will show an incredible array of bondage machines, some of them “Rube Goldberg” type contraptions, the likes of which have never been seen anywhere else. His vast ability to both conceptualize and create unique and unparalleled devices perhaps came from having an engineering background.  I’m told that at one time, before his fame as a bondage pioneer and artist, he worked for Rolls Royce designing airplane engines.

fetish trailblazer

As if being a veritable wizard of device bondage wasn’t enough, Jeff Gord was (once again) a great pioneer in another special fetish group, the human pony community.  In one of the many moving tributes posted in the wake of Gord’s passing, here’s what was posted about his work with that community at the Human Pony Registry:

His contributions to the pony play and his driving spirit to push the boundries (sic) of what the human pony can do will be sorely missed.

Finally, no remembrance of Jeff Gord would be complete without mention of the term “fornophilia” – and age old form of power play whose name was coined in the 1990’s by Gord’s web developer.  While the concept of forniphilia will be getting it’s own posting in the Joy of Kink lexicon, a brief definition here should be useful to those not familiar with the term. Forniphilia (aka human furniture) is a form of bondage (and sexual objectification) in which a person’s body is adapted for use as a footrest, chair, table, lamp, cabinet, or other piece of furniture.

If forniphilia could be called an art form (and I think it can) – it could be argued that Jeff Gord was its greatest artist to date.  Some of his more inventive forniphiliac styled productions are still being talked about today.  Perhaps his most famous, is styling a lady submissive as the weather-vane atop a barn.  To my eye, that kind of style will never go out of fashion.

RIP JEFF GORDJefferson Lloyd Gord – May 5th, 1946 to September 3rd, 2013

Jeff Gord truly showed that passion, imagination, and hard work can combine to make miraculous fantasies come true.

Jeff’s strongest obsession is with women converted into doll-like creatures, often with their personalities stripped away by costuming, hoods and corsets etc. This is his way of removing and playing with their considerable power by objectifying them and creating creatures of immense sexual allure with perfection of line. But these doll creatures also have to be tightly restrained, or Controlled. Reshaping their bodies with the indents of tight cinching is essential in the control aspect for Jeff Gord.

My interest in the bound female form does not have to include penetration or fucking for it to work form me. My main interest is tight bondage and objectification.

If the women don’t enjoy it, it’s no good to me

I am horny and I love looking at bound women, what else does one need. I consider women to be powerful and often dangerous creatures so I enjoy the illusion of having them under control.

I have always loved the thought of using women as items of furniture, especially if it makes escape or movement impossible. I guess it is the thought of having such a powerful sexual being totally under control…fortunately a lot of ladies also enjoy this concept from the other side of the equation.

It takes a lot of thought to make sure each one is safe, and yet looks aesthetic…I like them to look precarious, almost unsafe or not strong enough, even though they are often strong enough to lift the truck with.
