I’ve been blessed in so many ways in my lifetime.

I’ve had career successes.

I’ve known love.

And I’ve had more than my share of sexual escapades.

Many more than my share!

Among the rare kinky sexual activities I’ve had the opportunity to take part in (the kind of thing that folks see in specialized porn but can rarely try at home) one of the most unique in my experience is water bondage.

Let me start off by saying that water bondage isn’t for everyone, and it shouldn’t be.  Water bondage is a form of edge play, as even a strong swimmer may easily succumb to drowning when bound.  Frankly, it’s something to partake in only in the hands of trained lifesaving professionals, not to mention people very experienced with bondage.

My ex-wife and former submissive, BlissfulTorment, was exactly that.  She had the highest possible lifeguard/lifesaving certifications with the Red Cross, she was a personal trainer, not to mention a certified pool operator.  She was also a nude model, but that’s a different story for another time, I digress.

While I didn’t hold all the certifications, I’d sat in on many of her classes, and reviewed all the source material.  I didn’t bother to pay to get the certifications official, as it wasn’t my profession. I was always a stronger swimmer still than Bliss, so lifesaving techniques employed by lifeguards came easily to me.

When we took folks for fun and games at the pool Bliss operated and worked from, they were in safe hands, with not just one,l but two people trained in proper lifesaving techniques.

The other really cool thing about our situation at that time, was that the pool she operated was a therapy pool.  It was kept at a higher temperature than most aquatic environemnts, so the water was always comfortably warm for the arthritis foundation classes Blissy taught.

Among other things, Blissy was trained and certified to work with paraplegics in the pool for water therapy.  Lowering a body immobilized by bondage into the water with a Hoyer lift wasn’t much different than working with disabled individuals.  I’m guessing the biggest difference was that therapy patients weren’t sporting a huge hard-on as they were lowered into the water.

Opportunities for that kind of play were always limited, the only time Blissy had a truly legitimate excuse to tend to the pool was at 3 AM was during periods of pool maintenance, when water had been drawn down and needed to be refilled overnight.

The most memorable session I remember at the pool, was a scene involving Blissy and a (mostly) gay guy named Larry who just loved her dominance.  That was back in the days before digital cameras, so I spent most of the night wandering around the edges of the pool, looking to get good angles and lighting.

Well, that and trying to keep myself from getting distracted by the scene and accidentally falling into the pool.  But, there was little actual time shooting pictures, especially compared to today. Film was expensive, so was developing, so I couldn’t shoot hundreds of photos like I might for a similar scene in 2014.

The current ultimate for the entertainment of the water bondage aficionado is Kink.com’s site Water Bondage.  It’s not been “active” for some time, in other words new shoots aren’t being added, but many of the old episodes are classic.  I know that Lew Reubens was the site’s primary director throughout the majority of it’s existence, so I’d think that much of the site’s flavor and appeal are due to his vision and direction.  Regardless, it’s a great site for seeing more about this kind of play, and can be more than a little bit helpful to decide if it’s for you.

For those who are as at home in the water as they are outside it, water bondage has natural appeal.  Blissy spent dozens of hours every week in the pool, teaching classes and giving private lessons.  It was natural for her to want to play there too.

Water bondage also has great appeal to some breath play aficionados.  It’s very simple for a dominant to control a submissive’s breath inside a pool or tank of water.  Dangerously simple.  And, that’s perhaps the appeal to some others who indulge in water bondage, the fear factor.  Water bondage is edge play, have no doubt about it.

File it under “don’t try this at home”.  Be aware that water bondage is a dangerous activity that has the potential to cost a life. Consider water bondage to be a form of play that’s restricted to being done only in the alert presence of a trained lifeguard/lifesaving professional.  But, working within those strict restrictions, please do consider water bondage.

Playing in water can can transport us to simpler times, it can have a primal effect.  Water bondage can be fearful, exciting, enervating, and a host of other things.  Just make sure that safety is always the first consideration!  Now go get wet!
